Municipal flower beds are a big thing in France. Often, as one enters a town there is a sign proclaiming it to be a “ville fleuri” – a flower city. It seems that every city and town competes to see who can create the most original and extravagant flower beds. By July, these beds will be lush with flowers and foliage, transforming an otherwise gray cityscape into a kaleidoscope of color where bees buzz and grasses wave in the wind.
These photos were taken in May, as the beds were being prepared and the irrigation system installed. It’s much more informative to see everything as it’s installed, since the irrigation and planting technologies are visible without disturbing the plants.
